The Marcus King Band with Special Guest Bishop Gunn

Songwriter. Guitarist. Singer. Bandleader.  At only 23 years of age, Marcus King has been writing songs and performing onstage for half his lifetime, delivering a southern fried brand of blues and psychedelia inspired by rock n’ roll. All five members of the band—drummer Jack Ryan, bass player Stephen Campbell, trumpeter/trombonist Justin Johnson, sax player Dean Mitchell and keyboard player DeShawn “D-Vibes” Alexander—create a blistering, yet soulful unit that has honed their synergy through endless touring.

King is a Blue Ridge Mountain boy, born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina. A fourth-generation musician, he traces his lineage back to his fiddle-playing great grandfather, while his grandfather was a fiddler and guitarist. His dad is Marvin King, is a singer/guitarist who has toured nationally since the ‘70’s with various artists as well as his own group, Marvin King and Blue Revival.  Since he was a teenager, he’s been trading licks with famous fans and mentors Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks whenever their paths have crossed.

Marcus King doesn’t strive for authenticity, he never had to—it’s busting out of his DNA in every note he plays and every word he sings. This focused, firmly rooted artist isn’t just perpetuating the proud legacy of American rock and soul music; with the musically enthralling, deeply personal new album, Carolina Confessions, he and his great band are adding their own eloquent chapter to that rich narrative.

Also appearing is special guest Bishop Gunn of Natchez, Mississippi, is rooted in the history and sounds of their home and the surrounding Delta, and features a blend of rock and roll, soul and blues. The group consists of vocalist Travis McCready, Drew Smithers on guitar, Ben Lewis on bass and Burne Sharp on drums.

Gunnar and The Grizzly Boys
Friday, Aug 23 at 7:00pm at Birch Run Speedway & Event Center

Starting at $15.00

Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys (GGB) have a name that rings true! A song that rang true, “Standard American!” And now they have an album of truly Good Rhythm...

GGB have fashioned a style that leader Gunnar Nyblad describes as, “Country music with a Michigan root.”

After years of honing its live show, GGB enters 2017 riding “These Are The Good Times” with the release of its second album, Good Rhythm, on November 22, 2016. It’s the first since 2010 during the band’s first year together and is built on the success of “Standard American”, which has sold over 35,000 downloads, had 850,000 YouTube views and 700,000 Spotify streams.

There’s an explosive energy at live Grizzly Boy shows, as evidenced by their appearances at festivals, including last summer at Country Stampede in Manhattan, KS.  (watch video HERE).
